Voting is a sacred tradition in The United States of America. Every two years, we get the opportunity to overthrow the governmnet. Without violence, and without bloodshed. We need to keep our elections safe, and make them accessible to all voters. Our voting system is adversarial. A newer, more efficient method should replace this antiquated system. Every person’s vote should count, and nobody should feel that they are throwing their vote away by choosing a candidate that represents them best.
Therefore, I support:
Moving Missouri to a ranked choice voting system, which would enable us to:
Get a consensus candidate for each race.
Encourage participation from ‘fringe’ parties.
Require candidates to get support from a majority of the citizens.
Allow us to move non-partisan county-positions away from primary elections.
Instituting vote-from-home program, with necessary security precautions such as fingerprinting.
Updating ballot security with the following secure details:
Putting a unique identifier on each ballot that must be recorded before it is handed to a voter.
Updating vote tabulation machines to print date/timestamp on the ballot as it is read.
Digitally recording the unique identifier with the date/timestamp in the vote tabulation machine for auditing purposes
Instituting a secure digital voting system for active military members so their votes can be counted quickly and securely.
Require that all ballot initiatives appear first, before any candidate, on every ballot, to ensure that voters don’t “miss” a ballot initiative because it was on the back of the ballot.
Support Missouri joining the interstate compact instituting a nationwide popular vote.
Require all parties to reimburse the state of Missouri for the primary election process if they intend to use state infrastructure for partisan balloting.
